Therapy is a resource for the chronically hopeful, as much as it is a safety net for the emotionally or psychologically spent.
At the crux of every relationship are the stories told by the people in it. We tell stories about who we are, what we are doing here, and where we want to go. These stories are meant to be dynamic and alive. We have been writing them from the beginning. But, sometimes, story- lines get crossed, or they take on a life of their own, or they get side-blinded by someone else's narrative. My goal as therapist is to assist clients in the effort to free up their story-writing minds.
Shunryu Suzuki-roshi once advised, “Until you can just sit, you cannot find your way.” I invite you to just sit.
Then, if possible, share your story with someone trained to hear it. A story shared is a story imbued with fresh possibility.
